Hinckley struggled to break down Sphinx side, who before today had failed to win on the road.
After a fairly even opening 20 minutes in which neither keeper made a save Sphinx opened the scoring from the spot after Humphreys was ajudged to have handled in the box. Hayward found himself with space on the right and pulled the ball back to his team mate who's shot was blocked by the arm of Humphreys. Kyle Carey stepped up for the visitors and smashed his penalty into the roof of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Sphinx were in the ascendancy after this and Laban was forced into the first save of the game from a Sphinx deflected free kick. On 43 Coventry doubled their lead. Damian Kelly flicked the ball over Lyne on half way to Hayward, who once again found space down the right. He found Kelly who had continued his run and he calmly slotted past Laban to give Sphinx a 2-0 lead going into the break.
The second half was controlled possession wise by Hinckley but for all their puff could not test the Sphinx keeper. Jones was played in on 54 and appeared to be brought down by the Keeper but the referee remained unmoved much to surprise of Hinckley.
Despite dominating possession it was Coventry who provided the main efforts of the half playing mainly on the counter as Hinckley continued to push men forward. Jake Laban in the Hinckley goal was the reason for the scoreline staying 2-0 including an incredible double save on 90 minutes when Sphinx broke through looking a 3rd.
It's a disappointing result to take after a couple of good results in recent weeks but it's back to the drawing board as The Knitters host playoff chasing Sporting Khalsa at Leicester Road next weekend.
