Long Eaton United vs Hinckley LRFC - Match Report

Jake Labans goalkeeping heroics were the key as Hinckley earned a draw away at Long Eaton United this afternoon.

Hinckley were under pressure from the opening whistle and conceded a penalty in the opening five minutes when Laban was adjudged to have fouled the Long Eaton forward in the box. The leagues second top scorer Garnett stepped up but saw his penalty saved brilliantly by Laban In the Hinckley goal.

Long Eaton continued to dominate possession in the first half but couldn't find a way through as Laban found a way to stop everything thrown at him in the first half.

The second half started much the same as the first as Long Eaton continued to dominate possession but could not find the final ball. Laban was called into action just after the hour saving from close range to keep the scores level.

On 65 Long Eaton got the opener. The ball broke kindly for Bucci in the left wing position whose ball was pin point for Garnett to slide home from close range. It was no more than Long Eaton deserved as they continued to control the ball as the game entered the final stages.

Hinckley did show a marked improvement after the goal but failed to seriously test King in the Long Eaton goal but on 90 minutes Hinckley found themselves level. After soaking up nearly 90 minutes of pressure Hinckley won a corner. Michael Armstrong found Ben Humphreys who headed home for the equaliser.

There was still time for a late scare as a goal mouth scramble in the 94th minute in the Hinckley box was kept out by a Long Eaton player.

Hinckley come away with 4 points from a tough festive period where they have played 3 teams all pushing for the playoffs. Next up it's a home tie with Shepshed Dynamo this Saturday at Leicester Road.
