Senior Development vs Saffron Dynamo Development - Match Report

Daniel Darby3 Oct 2024 - 11:20

Match Report from Saturdays Senior Development game by George Foot

Hinckley Leicester Road FC Development hosted Saffron Dynamo Development who beat us 1-0 in the cup the week before. The first 10 minutes were fairly close with no real chances being created, but we started to control the ball after a tight start.
However, 15 minutes in, Saffron Dynamo win the ball and move up the field, travel into the box in the inside right channel, Tom Bennett comes across to challenge, but he catches the man, the referee awards a penalty and books him, before Kerry Effah Adu puts the penalty away to make it 1-0 to Saffron Dyanmo.
Just 5 minutes later, Saffron win the ball again, travel into the box, but this time Luke Jeffrey comes out from goal to try and close the ball down, but he also catches the man in almost the exact same spot and the referee awards another penalty, booking Luke Jeffrey as well.
Kerry Effah Adu steps up again, but Luke Jeffrey gets down to his right to save the penalty. Saffron are first to the rebound but Luke Jeffrey saves again, but the ball spins and sits only a yard out, and Mason Williams gets there first again to make it 2-0 to Saffron Dynamo.
Leicester Road continue to be patient in-possession and, after half an hour, Joe Marriott works the ball brilliantly down the right, cuts in from the by-line, plays the ball across to Tom Brody who put the ball past the keeper to get a goal back.
5 minutes later though, the game changes again; as Tom Bennett is talking across the pitch to Simon Humphrys, the referee walks half the length of the pitch to give him a second yellow for something that was supposedly shouted, without giving an explanation for what he said he heard, so Leicester Road were a goal behind and down to 10 men.
We took the last 10 minutes of the first half to regroup, but still controlled the ball well too, and the first half ended 2-1.
Callum Sumner came off the bench at half time, and he gets involved straight away, meeting a cross at the back post but heading just over.
On the hour mark, Scott Worrad sends a ball over the top to Callum Sumner who’s made a run in-behind, the keeper comes out of the box, but Sumner lobs the goalkeeper from 25 yards to equalise.
With a quarter of an hour to go, the sides are still tied at 2-2, and George Kennell comes off the bench. Again, he gets involves just 2 minutes after coming on, as he receives a cut back on the edge of the box, controls, shoots, and rattles the left post, but the ball bounces back out and the score remains 2-2.
Finally, after a half dominated by Leicester Road, the pressure finally pays off, when Callum Sumner scores again to make it 3-2 and complete the comeback with 10 minutes left.
For good measure, with 3 minutes left of the 90, Callum Sumner completes his hattrick with a shot rattled off the underside of the bar to make it 4-2 and give us some breathing room.
We see the game out to claim a hard-earned win that keeps us 2nd in the league. We go again on Saturday 5th October at 2:00pm when we go to Leicester Atletico Reserves in the County Cup.
